Picture - Swim with the fishes…
Well, winter is coming to my neck of the woods, so I have to get my koi ready. Specifically I have to make sure the pond’s ready for falling leaves and freezing temperatures. I spent this whole weekend fixing leaks, cleaning filters, and getting in 50 degree water. All for some fish that eat everything I give them and then shit all over the place so I can clean it up.But its actually worth it. The picture you see I took this summer and I’m really proud of it. It’s a ton of work, but it’s one of those things you enjoy doing so you never really think of it as work. So, since they won’t be too easy to look at with a net and ice over the water, I thought I’d post a picture for all the world to see. Koi keeping is actually a pretty cool hobby. But, as in any hobby, you have the fanatics who only really want to belong to something, and always take it over board. Fortunately here in Kentucky, its not a huge thing yet and the other people I’ve met that have ponds aren’t psychotic about it.
Probably one of the few things that could combine so many of my interests: science, biology, engineering, animal medicine… pretty cool really. OK, you caught me. I’m writing an online journal entry, and there’s nothing funny about it. Don’t worry, I’ve said from the very beginning that this kind of stuff will only find its way on here every once in a while. But at least it’s not a post from my dog’s point of view on how she likes to shit everywhere that I can’t get to…

very cool.

I would LOVE to have a koi pond!
That is really awesome.
I’ve always thought koi ponds were beautiful. But any attempt, on my part, to start one would be an act of pre-meditated homicide.
I’ve got a betta now and that’s about as far as I plan to take my undersea petcare adventures. ;)
Shane: Thanks. To think I have one of your poems in my comments section now…
Laurie: Thanks… it is pretty cool. Once I get the photo album up and running, I’ll probably post some more there, so I won’t have to clutter up blog posts with them.
ngregory00: Kind of amazing to think my irresponsible ass can take care of something like this. I’m the same guy who missed about 4 or 5 finals while and undergrad from over sleeping. These weren’t early morning ones either…
Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment at my site. I had a koi pond for 3-4 years until I gave up 2 years ago and stick to keeping fish in an aquarium. Some of the koi disappeared mysteriously on a number of occasions.
