Looking Back - “Left in the Lurch (9/2/2005)

Left in the LurchNot really a very funny post. I had been thinking about the coverage of Hurricane Katrina on the news, and was getting a little sick of how much the news was focusing on “inhuman behavior”. And the whole time showing throngs of black people looking suspiciously like they were rioting or looting.

I really just wanted to point out how thin the veil of civilization really is in our society and societies world-wide, regardless of race or culture. You take away the standard utilities that we all enjoy and ‘civilization’ is going to hell in a hand basket VERY quickly.

Imagine your own city suddenly not having any sewer, power, or water utilities? The worst places would have the largest populations. I know if my own town went without these pleasantries, a whole lotta shotguns and rifles would be on the street in record time.

Just something to think about in any case.

Not sure about this ‘Last Year‘ category business? Have a look-see at the post I announced the new category in.

The “inhuman behavior” was that of FEMA, the government on all levels (local/state/national) who let those people suffer like they did for days on end.

I agree with the above. And I don’t feel too damn secure, either.

Very good point. The media had a frickin field day with black people during their Katrina coverage. I’m sure they’re quite disappointed that the ratings bonanza finally ended.

Laurie: But there were taxes that needed to be cut!

    Dedd: You ain’t kiddin’ brother.

nicole: Yes they were… I was really getting sick of how the media was covering it.
