Flash Player in Wordpress

When I was checking the visitor logs the other day, I noticed that the most popular post on Gangstas & Hugs was Ding, Fries Are Done! I hadn’t loaded the post in a while because the song is annoying AND addicting. I went ahead and clicked on the post and discovered that the embedded flash file wasn’t there! Concerned for all the web surfers that were making their rounds and not finding the melodious music of the Burger King retard I set out to find a fix.

Kimili Flash Embed

Apparently the problem lies with upgrading to Wordpress 2.0. While I love how much easier to work with version 2.0 is over 1.5, it’s been frustrating to find some fixes to how my posts and pages were laid out. 2.0 doesn’t like embedded html code. You’re supposed to use the wysiwyg editor and that’s it. When I upgraded to 2.0 from 1.5, all of the embedded media files I had in a number of my posts just disappeared. Entering the ‘embed‘ code again didn’t work because 2.0 doesn’t like to validate that type of code in the wysiwyg editor.

There isn’t plug-in listed in the Wordpress Codex that accomplishes the task, so I went a-searchin’ on Google and found Kimili Flash Embed. It works very well. The author has also documented the extensive list of attributes you can use with the plug-in, although MOVIE, HEIGHT, and WIDTH are the only required attributes. Once you’ve uploaded the plug-in to Wordpress’s plug-in directory and activated it, using it is as easy as inserting a line of code into your Wordpress post (using the WYSIWYG editor). You can also download the plug-in for Wordpress 2.0 here. So enjoy your flash files in your snazzy new Wordpress install!
