Liddell vs. Sobral
I got to watch UFC 62 at a buddy’s place last night and I was pissed with the ‘Main Event’ that I had been so excited to see. Not that I expected anyone to really compete with Chuck Liddell at this point in his career, but I didn’t expect Sobral to walk right into a knockout 95 seconds into the fight. The idiot did exactly what Liddell wanted him to do. Sobral got a couple shots in on Chuck so he thought it would be a good idea to just run at him and start swinging. In the replay you could see Liddell winding up his knockout punch. He simply shuffled back a couple times and waited for Sobral’s chin to be in the perfect position, and WHAM! ‘Babaloo’ goes down like a sack of potatoes.
I don’t know about you, but I was angry. My buddy, his brother and I had just been talking all night about how everyone plays right into Chuck Liddell’s game plan. He doesn’t go after you, he just waits for you to do something stupid and then he swings to knock you the fuck out. And for a guy that looks like a redneck from the trailer park down the road from me, he does that VERY well.
See, the only way to beat Chuck Liddell is to be a better striker than him, mainly because no one has been able to take him down since Randy Couture. The guy can knock you out with whatever he wants, and he doesn’t care what he uses to do it. Whether he uses his fists, knees, or feet, you’re still going to sleep if you attempt to bang with him. I’m trying to think of anyone that could really pose a challenge to the ‘Iceman’, but right now I think the only things he’s gotta worry about are his age and that beer belly that seems to get a half inch bigger every time I see him in the octagon.
John went to a friends house to watch this last night and was similarly disappointed.

Robguy: The new season is OK. Season 3 was a lot more entertaining though. Shoney Carter is probably the lone bright spot this season… what a goof ball.

And another thing that proves Liddell is a badass: He banged uber-hottie Willa Ford!
JJ: I didn’t know that… yeah, he really is a badass.
Sounds like the kind of fighter Liddell might have a problem with is someone who’s as patient as he is.
