Label Maker Pro

The Reverend Bill Boy Gisher had a spectacular post last week about the way in which individuals tend to try and lump someone or something into certain category or way of thinking. I wish I could say I have always been impartial to myself, but I know that isn’t true. There have been plenty of times when I’ve jumped on to a certain side of an issue simply because I thought my political leanings or beliefs put me on that side. Why do we do this? Because its the easiest approach. It’s a lot easier to associate yourself with a group and then make all your decisions depending on what that group says it stands for than to evaluate every single issue yourself. But that’s what we should always do. The Rev. has this to say about himself:

I will evaluate every issue one at a time, and gather all the information on the subject I can find. I will apply logic and all the common sense I can muster to decide what I think about each issue, and I will not ask or wait for some association to tell me what I should think. I might become bolder about it than I am now, and stop being as nice to people that would dare ask me to draw my line in the sand. Maybe the next time somebody asks me which side I am on, I will pause for a second, and then answer, “The one with the wet spot.”

I only wish I could say the same. While I do strive for that kind of independent analysis of most issues or arguments, I can’t say that I’m always that dedicated.

I would bet my money that his logic and common sense fly out the window if he’s pondering “Intelligent Design”, the reliegious rights latest nonsense.

    jay; what’s up man…

    dear jane: Yeah me too…

porchwise: I’d have to say I agree, but I haven’t seen anything that indicates that on his site yet. He does write quite a bit of satire though, so if you caught a bit about ID, then it was probably tongue-in-cheek.
