Nerds, Warcraft, and EA.com?

I was just checking the logs for the blog and noticed a lot of the traffic was coming from the ‘EA.com’ domain. I thought “This is a little strange”. So I did a little digging and found out almost all of the traffic was visiting a particular post, Warcraft ‘Switch’ Commercial. I figured that someone who worked there must have found the video funny and passed in on via email or something, since I didn’t see a referring link at first.

It actually turns out that the traffic was coming from a post in a forum for a World of Warcraft clan called ‘Shado’, or ‘Circle of Friends’. And since the vast majority of the web surfers making the rounds from that forum are on the EA.com domain, that means there’s a bunch of Electronic Arts employees surfing their WoW forums and playing Warcraft while at work. That’s a RIVAL video game company! I thought EA guys sat around all day playing Madden games.

In all reality, it’s probably just a coincidence that traffic is coming from EA.com and the WoW clan forum, but is is fun to make unfounded accusations! Either way, thanks for the traffic!

Here’s a couple pictures of the ‘evidence’, so to speak:

These screenshots are from StatCounter, and only use the last 100 visitors. There have been WAY more than 25 visitors from EA.com today.

Actually, via SiteMeter, they account for 29% of my traffic today (1/5/2005).

Silly wabbit - so many people spend so much time hating/demonizing EA, that they forget that EA is made up of many, many people who just love games. A good game is a good game, and we’ll play it no matter who publishes it.

gamer4life: Oh I don’t hate EA at all. I remember their Sega Genesis cartridges that had the special ‘yellow tab’ on the side. I don’t know why but I always liked those cartridges better. This post was just in jest… please keep up the good work at EA!

And the whole reason I even did this post is because I saw all this traffic from EA and wasn’t getting any comments, I just wanted to “verify it was actual people” stopping by. I would never complain about someone posting a link to my site that gets me traffic.
