The Evolution of Dance
For a white boy, I’m not afraid to say that I can dance alright. I think it had something to do with all those african, jazz, and tap dance classes my hippy mother insisted on sending us boys to during the ages of 6 to 12. God I hated that shit… there is just nothing cool about wearing a unitard, EVER! “Damn it momma! We’re living in the hood! We can’t be caught going to tap dance classes!” But maybe now I can look back and credit those early forays into interpretive movement for my present day mastery of rhythm.
At any rate, I’m not that good. And by ‘good’, I mean gay. Gay dudes have some of the most control over their bodies out of any human beings I’ve ever seen. Apparently Tom Cruise didn’t have it when he showed up on 106 & Park on BET this week.
I used to be able to do the ‘cabbage patch‘, the ‘running man‘, and even the ‘roger rabbit‘. But nothing holds a candle to the gammit of dance moves that Judson Laipply can pull off. In fact he can do the whole ‘Evolution of Dance’ in about six minutes.

This video had me rolling. I had almost forgotten how many of those dance moves I’ve tried in my 27 years. You may think from my preface of the video that I think Judson is gay. You would be correct. Take a look at this quote from his bio page:

I think we all know what a Masters in “Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies” means! Mojitos anyone?!? I keed, I keed. There’s just no way a straight man would be able to dance for 6 minutes straight and memorize that many individual moves. OK, maybe “able to” is a bit strong… how about “just wouldn’t”? The video was freakin’ awesome though!

Someone emailed me the link to that Tom Cruise bit last week and I have to say it’s just as embarassing now as it was the first time I saw it. I’m not sure who to pity more — Tom Cruise or Black Entertainment Television.

I found it weird that dancing (being able to) and racing (cars) are mutually exclusive, even though both requires rythm and motor skills.
You can only do either one. I know because I used to race ‘em!

rockyjay: So you can’t dance? Well, I’m actually a pretty good driver. But I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m a good ‘dancer’… that sounds like I’m going to audition for the next running of CATS at the local community theatre. I guess I’ll just say that I can break it down better than Tom Cruise on BET.

So you can wear a wrestling outfit but you have a problem a unitard? I wouldn’t be caught dead in either, or rather that is the only way there would be a chance I’d be caught in them.
If it makes you feel any better, I can’t dance that well either, but I blame it on my horrible joint pain. You may as well just beat me with some canes. However dancing style is the number one way we figure out if the strippers are gay.
