Scanner Darkly

Erich over at Murdershow.net turned me on to this preview for ‘A Scanner Darkly’. It’s actually pretty cool. The movie is a blend of real life actors and cartoon/computer animation. The premise seems to be how drugs will be monitored and regulated in the future. The whole ‘preview’ is actually the first 24 minutes of the movie. Looks like I’ll have to find a local theatre that’s playing it.

The preview is age restricted, but all you have to do is enter a birthdate that proves you’re at least 18 years of age.

This movie just looks so cool. Kinda weird, but it’s got that comic-book feel.

Looks like you’re pretty busy but still manage to post once a week. Great job! Hopefully you’ll have time to come on over back to my site for a visit. It’s been ages.

Phoenix: You’re absolutely right… it has been ages since I’ve made comments on your site, along with most of the other blogs I read on a regular basis. Don’t worry though, I’ve been staying current with your blog on my feed reader. I’ll definitely stop and leave a message soon!

I saw the movie about a week ago. It’s very, very good. All the actors were great, especially Downey Jr. and Rider. And I’m a big fan of the animation technique they use. Run out and see it while it’s still playing.

  • mojotek

minijonb: Great, I’m glad to hear you’ve seen and recommend it. I will definitely be checking it out.

Okay.. here’s the part where I sound like I’m an asshole name-dropper braggart…
A good friend of mine was the Second Assistant Director on A Scanner Darkly. Ummm - yay for me.

  • mulk

that movie is next on my list, go phillip k dick!

  • mojotek

JJ: That’s actually pretty damn cool. Of course I have no idea what a Second Assistant Director does, but its still bad ass to say.

mulk: Good, I’m glad I’m not the only one excited to see this movie.

  • Ignatius Dedd

I keep hearing about this. I’ll go, as long as they crazy Mel Gibson isn’t in it.

  • Robguy

I saw the intro one night when I was drunk and thought it looked really stupid, but then, like I said, I was drunk.

  • mojotek

    Dedd: What a crazy cracka…

Robguy: Well, I was at work when I watched the preview, so maybe I was just wishing for anything to occupy my mind.

  • David Amulet

I’m not sure about the plot, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the technique.

David: The animation technique is probably the coolest part about it for me too.

The other Eric wants to see this movie too but I’m sure he’ll be too wrapped up trying to get tickets to “Snakes on a Plane” to locate a theater willing to show “Scanner Darkly”.

  • mojotek

nicole: That actually sounds like quite a dilemma. I may have missed my chance here to catch the movie in a theatre too. Looks like I’ll be in line for SOAP tickets too.

A most excellent movie. I highly recommend it to EVERYONE.

Read my review at the site I linked my name to. Well worth the time and money.

  • mojotek

FyreGoddess: I read your review, and its great! You summed up the good points of the movie without really giving anything away. The movie critics that actually get paid for writing reviews could learn a thing or two from you!

This movie blew my mind away so in depth with the story and the visuals were just awsome. Hollywood needs more movies like this.
