I Need My iPod Fix Man
I’m officially going crazy since leaving my iPod on a connecting flight from Lexington to Detroit. I can’t stand it anymore. No one has taken me up on my reward offer, so some schmuck is probably using it to listen to the latest Chamillionaire track while they’re working on the Detroit tarmac. Which means I’m stuck listening to CDs in my truck and nothing at all while I’m working out or working in the yard.
Worst of all, the iPod mini is discontinued and I’m forced to choose between the iPod Nano and the iPod Video. The Nano has got the cool factor and I’m sure I’d love it, but the damn size only goes up to 4 Gigabytes. For just $45 more I could get an iPod that has 30 Gigs of storage and plays videos for poop’s sake. But the latter is pretty damn big and I’d worry that my clumsy ass would chip or crack the thing since it’s not made of aluminum like my trusty Mini was.
I could go with a refurbished iPod Mini… but how reliable are those. And would I get sick of the lowly 6 GB?
Plus, I’m not sure if I want to be locked into iTunes for the rest of my life. The damn DRM won’t let me listen to the songs I bought on iTunes unless I’m using an iPod or burn them to CD first. Some of the iPod clones are cheaper and offer more features but won’t play AAC format files (Apple’s shitty secure format).
I don’t care what people say, Apple isn’t all its cracked up to be. Those anti-Microsoft fanboys keep going on and on about how Mac is the greatest and blah, blah, blah. But Apple is becoming as bad as Microsoft with their locked formats and closed software for digital music.
Jesus, I need my fix man. I’m jonesin’ for another hit… when the hell am I going to be able to listen to my music away from my computer again? Do I really want to shell out $250+ to replace something I was stupid enough to lose, and then shell out a bunch of money to replace the accessories that go with it? Like the armband and the protective case.
I’d give my left nut to have enough money to never worry about the purchases I have to make…

I dunno what you’re complaining about. I’m managing quite happily with a 512MB mp3. :p
iTunes is one of the most suck-ass things ever created. Besides Napster, of course. Instead of an iPod, get a REAL mp3 player. There are plenty of high-space ones out there for the same price, if less than an iPod. Then you’ll have the freedom ^_^
I’m anti-Microsoft, and I don’t really like Apple much. Linux owns all. lol
I’m so sorry, Mojo. To tell you the truth I don’t know how you’ve gone even THIS long.
But (unless I’m butt-ass broke) I look at an iPod as a necessary purchase. It’s a hedge against clinical insanity due to boredom. So it’s an investment that I’d HAVE to make!
I LOVE my nano :-)
Are you effing kidding me? Go with the iPod Video and get yourself a nice hard shell case so you don’t have to worry about dropping it or scratching it all to hell. And let me introduce you to a nifty little feature in iTunes that converts your AAC files to MP3. There are also external programs that will do the same.
Skipper: Well, if I hadn’t already bought about 750 songs on iTunes I would probably consider it. I’d love to have the freedom to get whatever MP3 player I wanted.
nicole: I don’t know how I’ve gone so long either… I actually broke down right after writing this post and bought a iPod Video 30Gb. So I guess all my talk was just talk.
Laurie: You stopped by. Awesome!
jester: I did go ahead and get the video version… so we’ll see how well that works for me. And I’ve tried the programs that convert the iTunes files to non-secure AAC files… but they’re still a bitch to try and put on some MP3 player.
I have no advice for you and you obviously don’t need any anymore. I mostly listen to progressive talk radio now, but I guess most shows offer podcasts now.
Robguy: That’s the other thing I miss, being able to listen to the podcasts I actually subscribe to away from my computer. I actually don’t listen to much at all at my computer, so being without an iPod has really messed with my balls.
that sucks; what a bummer
Your left one? Oh man, that’s your lead nut!
Seriously, it sounds like you’re lost without your ipod. I’m very happy with my Nano, but if you have a ton of songs to put on there, you should go with the ipod video.
shane: Thanks. Hopefully my suffering will be over when I get my new iPod in the mail this week.
Phoenix: I eventually went with that decision. I just didn’t want to regret getting a music player that was too small right up front. We’ll see how it goes!
Can someone please help me i have my ipod open and now i dont know what to do I had a sad face on my ipod screen
Wel hey I just found in school today that I lost my ipood wiith all 995 sons that i bought and the 203 photos i had of everything. I reached in my pockets to listen to it and all i found were the headphones only………………………………………………………………….
[...] I love my iPod. I’m not shy about that fact. So it comes as no surprise that I am sympathetic to the pain Kim Jong Il is about to endure in the coming months. [...]
