Crocodile Hunter Dead at 44
I just found this via The Phoenix’s post about the subject, which is backed up by Australia’s Daily Telegraph. If this is true, then I’m going to cry. I can’t believe that the Crocodile Hunter is dead, and by a sting-ray no less! Here’s a quote from the paper:
He said Irwin had gone “over the top of a stingray and a stingray’s barb went up and went into his chest and put a hole into his heart”.
If he was ever going to go down, I would have put money on a mistake with a very venomous snake. You know, one of those where a snake handler assistant on the show accidently let a King Cobra out where Steve Irwin couldn’t see it, and BAM he goes down and it’s all the assistant’s fault. I really hope this is a hoax or publicity stunt… I always thought the crazy bastard was going to out live me.

It’s a shame. He was a character.
You know how hard it is to be killed by a sting ray?
Man, that was a one-in-a-million shot.
It is extraordinary but then he was such a showman that it is somehow fitting that the manner of his death be so unusual. Just a shame for his family that it was so untimely. Stingray’s always make me go cold for some reason, I saw some close-up while on holiday recently and thankfully they were behind think curved perspex. Apparently the whole thing was being filmed and he asked them not to stop filming. He was Crazy Mad to the last!
That was a totally f*cked up way to go. RIP.
On land, Irwin was in his true element. Whether it was a croc, a snake, or a spider, he was so fast and understood these animals’ behavior. In the ocean, however, you have to think that he was at a great disadvantage and totally out of his element.
Robguy: I thought so too… One of my personal favorite characters.
W.C.: Definitely a rare, and sad occurance.
Wrangler: True… I haven’t seen the video yet though. It may be too much for me though. I’ve been watching that guy’s show since I was in high school.
Laurie: Absolutely. I wish his family the best.
Phoenix: I hadn’t really thought of that. I guess it is more fitting that it was an ocean animal that got him in the end.
Are they going to feed his dead body to crocodiles? I think he would have liked that idea.
Okay - that was uncalled for. I take it back.
JJ: Yes, that was uncalled for, even though I bet there’s something crazy like that actually in his will.
Dude, I was totally bummed to hear that he died. He was always so enthusiastic and positive. He might have been bonkers with the dangerous animals but you couldn’t fault him for loving life.
What kills me (no pun intended) is that people like him who offer nothing but positivity die so soon yet true monsters can rot on death row forever.
truly it is a dark hour for all.
nicole: His enthusiasm was contagious. That’s why he was one of my favorite television personalities. I even saw him start crying when he found a crocodile that had been in captivity for WAY too long. And isn’t it ironic how the whole karma thing doesn’t seem to work?
mulk: You said it brotha’.
Arghhh!!! i can’t take it!!! my favourite tv personalities dead…..he’s the only personalities in the wildlife show who put me in the mood…… :’( he’s funny………RIP :’
MarleyPunx: He put you in the mood too?!?
