I’d Like to Thank All the Little People…
Yes I actually attend rap concerts. And yes, rap acts actually come to Kentucky. These are camera phone pics of the concert I went to last night. Its the group “Nappy Roots”.
You might remember their video for “AwNaw” on MTV. A pretty good show.My brother was talking to this girl he knew for most of the night so he wasn’t really with the rest of us until the end of the night. After the group had gone off stage, I see the girl he’s been talking to make a bee-line for the “VIP Downstairs” area. She was walking with such purpose that I thought she knew somebody that was going to let her in. My drunk ass brother is following her the whole way. Some bartender stops her for a few seconds and I see him shake his head a few times. Then he finally steps aside and lets them go downstairs. I don’t think much of it until this morning, when I ask my brother about it.

He says she didn’t know anybody, and it was just one of those deals where she just kept repeating “It’s OK, I’m with the band,” and kept inching forward until the guy would have had to grab her or step aside. Damn, and to think all I’d have to do to get backstage at a Brittany Spears concert is to try that. You learn something everyday.

Hey, you got a new look~
Where was that concert? I haven’t been to a concert in a long time… the only place we’ve been to them is downtown Nashville and Starwood.
It was at The Dame in Lexington, KY. It’s actually a GREAT music venue. They have all different genres of music acts coming in. I’ve ssen everything there from Reggea, Rap, Folk, Rock, Techno, you name it.
And the crowd is always good… everyone’s there for the music, not to start any shit or just to get drunk.
Too bad the place is being torn down in a year or so… the whole block is getting re-developed.
Mojo…anyone could get inside Brittney Spears these days. Clearly her standards are not that high.
A rap concert in Kentucky? Whoa.
That’s pretty amazing. Just sounds weird saying that. “Rap concert in…Kentucky.”
Actually, we aren’t that bad here in the city of Lexington. A decent night life, and it’s still a college town too.
If I had to estimate, I’d say the large majority of concerts and club shows here are actually NOT country music. That’s not to say when some Toby Keith comes to town that you don’t see all the cowboy hats and boots come out.
It’s great to say that I’ve actually seen Nappy Roots and The Pharcyde at The Dame… pretty cool crowd to go to a rap concert with.
Kentucky ain’t (get the irony?) half bad for hip hop groups. Black Coffey, Nappy Roots, and Mike (not Michael) Jackson are all from Kentucky. In fact one of my closest friends is a semi-professional music producer for the local talent here in our city. His name is JK but goes by the handle JK47 as a stage name. The sad thing being that he could produce music for any rap/hip hop artist out there today and it would sound a shit ton better than “that laffy taffy, shake that laffy taffy” Good God. Too bad noone will ever look at Kentucky as a legit locale for rap talent.
Geesus, i hate the new look, i hope the 18.4512380482056 cents you made on google ads went a long way last month.
You hate the look? Why bitch?
And you ruined my JK47 debut… he was gonna star in one of the comic strips with Big Rob.
And it was 32.45623019865 cents… thank you very much.
