View Gangstas & Hugs on your PDA
Admittedly, I’ve found myself sitting on the john playing with my PDA and wondering what Gangstas & Hugs looked like on a mobile browser. I loaded it up, and it wasn’t pretty. You could read everything, but you had to scroll this way and that, and the sidebar overlapped in places. That was until I found a plug-in called Wordpress PDA.
I was a little skeptical at first, mainly because I’ve been known to over do the number of plug-ins on the blog, and I didn’t want to add another that was just going to make loading the site slower and offer no real functionality. There was no need to feel that way. The plug-in works just as described. Check out a description and pictures of it in action after the jump.
Here’s a description straight from Imthiaz Blog:
It is really simple plugin which detects the browser agent and loads a simple theme on fly. The plugin comes with a theme folder which acts like normal theme with all the functionality of wordpress theme.
The plugin doesn’t have any advanced option to control. If you want to customize you can do it with the theme files.
Installation of this plugin is simple and straight forward. Just extract the files in you wordpress plugins folder. And in the admin activate the plugin
Once you activate the plugin you will not be seeing any magic in your admin menus or any trace of this plugin
. To see this plugin in action you have browse your site using a pda. I have installed the plugin in my blog and this is how it looks from a pda browser.
Now for pictures of the plug-in in action:
Here’s a single post on the screen.
You can even leave comments while you’re on the road!
On the main page, the posts are truncated and include links to the category, permalink, and comments.
The pages and categories are even listed at the bottom of the main page.
Just imagine the possibilities. Now you can browse Gangstas & Hugs from the comfort of a public bathroom stall!

Hrm… not seeing much of a difference on the Treo, but it’s a really neat concept. I might have to snag that plugin myself…
FyreGoddess: Uh oh… maybe it doesn’t work on all Windows Mobile machines. I did have to refresh my own PDA’s browser a couple times to get the cached blog out of there. Anyone else not notice a difference?
You were just DYING to use that first sentence in a blog post, weren’t you?? Especially the first part of that first sentence. ;)
Oh and kudos on the PDA compatibility. That’s some stellar work, my friend.
For some reason I was always thinking about this blog while at a public bathroom stall… and now you offer a solution.
Wonderful!
Now I just need to know what is a PDA? — And then get one.
nicole: Yes, you caught me. I have been saving that one for quite some time. And I finally had an excuse to use it!
I wish I could take credit for the work, but I will accpt the kudos!
rockyjay: How did I know you’d be the one to say that?
And a PDA is a “Personal Digital Assistant”… you know, like a Palm Pilot. It’s supposed to help you be more productive, but really it has the opposite effect on me.
Thanks for that - I’m going to check that plugin out myself!
Memphis: You’ll have to let me know how it works out for you.
