Dear Ms. Kathy Cobb…

I’d just like to share with all of you a darling email I received this week. Please enjoy Ms. Cobb’s words, and then endulge in my ever so eloquent response:

Kathy Cobb wrote:
I have reported this site to PETA as well as the Internet Crimes Division and
the Humane Society.

This is regarding the Tourettes Cat. You should not be showing videos that
depict verbal and/or physical abuse of any animal or that encourages such
abuse.

I would like to have this video removed and any subsequent videos by this
member.

This is NOT funny animal content.

Kathy Cobb

And now for my response:

Dear Ms. Cobb,

Bwahahahahahahaha! You KILL me!

Yours in Animal Cruelty,
Mojotek

Of course I didn’t send this to her. I don’t want her knowing my email address! (This was sent via the contact form). She is referring to this post in which one of the links I mentioned was called ‘Tourettes Cat‘. Keep in mind that this is an external link. For those of you who haven’t seen the video, let me give you a little synopsis:

  1. Some guy records his cats as he yells profanity at them from behind a video camera
  2. The cats run away and generally look agitated
  3. He records himself petting one of the cats after he yells at it
  4. All of the cats look well fed, and aren’t scared or upset at all until the guy starts yelling and cussing at them

That’s about it. I just found it mildly humorous because he was yelling and cussing like he really had Tourettes.

While I feel no need to justify or explain myself to some misinformed do-gooder on the internet, I will say that I am an animal lover and I despise people that abuse animals. I live in Kentucky and I’ve never hunted, even though I’m plenty experienced with firearms. Hell, I maxed out a couple of credit cards building a 7500 gallon pond just to keep colorful carp! Does that sound like someone who would promote verbal or physical abuse of animals?

The only reason I’m even posting about this, is that one of the types of people I despise the most in this world is the effervescent ‘Overzealous Good Samaritan‘, or OGS for short. The OGS is one of those entities that the devil uses as one of his ‘ironic punishments’. The OGS is irony embodied in human flesh because he or she thinks they’re accomplishing good, when all he or she ever does is cause misery and harm.

A typical OGS is grossly misinformed about a plethora of subjects that they want to feel passionate about. He or she is also very stubborn about what they believe, and have no room for rational thought or calm discussion. He or she may also find themselves at the head of an organization whose goal is noble and worthwhile, but is constantly tainted by the antics of the OGS.

Ms. Cobb isn’t even close to the worst Overzealous Good Samaritan that’s ever crossed my path, and I’m sure I’m not the only one with a good story. Anyone else have a good one about an OGS that fucked them over?

ok…I’m an animal lover as well, and I have to admit that I even laughed a little when I saw that. I seriously hate people that are constantly looking for a cause. They remind me of the “causeheads” in the movie PCU. Annoying chumps.

  • JJ

I definitely laughed and I’m on the PETA mailing list (I’m not even kidding). The video’s funny.

    I haven’t received any feedback from any OGS’s. I’m a little envious.

  • Robguy

Some people find it a lot safer to confront imaginary abuse rather than deal with the real problems of the world. The cats didn’t look that concerned. The yelling sounds more disturbing because of the words he uses, and while animals seem to be able to pick up meanings for a number of words (like Dinnertime, up, down, come, go potty.. ) I can’t imagine the cat has been exposed to “rape” and “i’ll end you” in any context that it would understand beyond “the monkey is agitated again”.

  • mojotek

ashburnite: Causeheads! Ha! I forgot about them… this lady would definitely fit the bill.

JJ: Don’t be envious… it’s only a matter of time my friend, only a matter of time.

Robguy: Haha! You had me laughing out loud with that one… I can definitely see my cat thinking “the monkey is agitated again” when I yell at him for pissing all over my room.

I think the best part is “I have reported this site to PETA”. Like PETA is a government agency with powers of enforcement as opposed to a fringe special-interest group. It’s like someone saying, “I’m going to report you to the 700-Club,” or “I’m telling the Communist Party of East Lansing on you.” Oooooooo. Scary.

Of course, I’m deeply jealous that you get mail like this. How do you do it, Mojotek?

Here, here!!! Having had my own experience with an OGS all of last year. We ended up in court multiple times. Stupid woman decided that the only possible way for my horse to be skinny was me starving her, not the fact that she had had two major abdominal surgeries. If anyone has ever been cut open they know that it takes a while to recover. Anyway, after a yearlong battle and an 8 hour trial, I was vindicated. Now, I am suing her and the sheriff she rode in on. Damn those know nothing, tunnel visioned, think-they-know-it-all OGSs!!!

  • Omnipotent Poobah

Mojo, you did it now. She ratted you out to PETA and you know what that means…dozens of naked people, bodies painted to look like animals, will show up on your lawn in protest. Maybe even a nude Pamela Anderson.

Wait a minute! Can I borrow that Tourette’s Cat video? I wonder if you can request which animals they paint themselves like?

  • ngregory00

These people hate their lives. Otherwise they wouldn’t spend time sticking their noses into everyone else’s.

I’m not talking about the ones that actually set out to do good, mind you. I’m talking about the ones who get their jollies by picking apart everyone around them. They wouldn’t know a charitable act if it bit ‘em in the ass.

  • mojotek

spoonfighter: I don’t know, I might actually be a little scared if someone said they were going to report me to the 700 club… and I don’t know how I do it, maybe I’m just a magnet for these kinds of people.

tubawench: You were the first person I thought of when I got this email! I almost told your story too! Good luck with the lawsuit too… when I mentioned that OGS’s find their way to the head of some noble organizations, I was actually referring specifically to the biatch that went after you.

O’ Poobah: Hmmm… maybe I should be more offensive more often. I wonder what kind of crazy hippy-chicks would camp out in my front yard naked?

nicole: That’s exactly my take on the Overzealous Good Samaritan… it’s not the cause that they champion, it’s the act of trying to tear other people down that they get off on.

  • The Phoenix

Sounds like this person needs a hobby. Watch out for the PETA police, though. They could be hiding in the bushes.

  • rockyjay

Some people have too much time…

  • The Phoenix

I guess PETA shut you down, as you haven’t posted in a very long time.

  • Riss

    Dear Ms Cobb,

I would respond to you but that would take away from my time spent kicking cats and punting dogs into the street.

    Love,

    Mojo

    P.S. - Get a hobby.

  • Dawn (webmiztris)

that guy sounds like a lunatic, but at least from what’s shown on the video, he’s certainly not being cruel! there’s much worse shit going on regarding animals than just plain yelling at them!

(ps, I can comment! at least on my work computer - with IE 7. on my home computer - with Firefox - is where your site crashes for me…)

  • mojotek

Phoenix: They did almost get me! I’ve been hiding out for the past week hoping it would blow over. I think the danger is finally past, so I’m gonna risk posting again!

Riss: Damn, that would have been a lot funnier than mys response. If I ever send her something back, I might just copy and paste that :).

Dawn: I would agree that the guy’s a loony, but that’s about all he is… if it seemed like the cats were expecting him to yell at them all the time, then it might be different.

And I’m glad you can comment! I didn’t change anything… but I’ll keep checking to make sure I don’t have some rogue plug-in messing with FireFox users.
