Performancing Partners

Performancing launched their beta Partners program yesterday, and I was cool enough to put Gangstas & Hugs on the list the day before that! The concept is pretty simple, and might work for some of us small to medium sized blogs. Here’s the low down, straight from Performancing:

Performancing Partners offers publishers a new, smart way to get paid for blogging. By placing the Partners code on your blog you open your site to a wide variety of advertisers whilst being free to concentrate on what you do best: Blog…

Adding your blog is quick and simple, and if you need it, you can get help in the publisher forums.

Revenue share and residual income:

The revenue split is very simple with Performancing Partners, and it’s geared toward rewarding publishers that stick with us, and refer others into the program. The main points are these:

* You take 70% of advertising revenue your blog generates.
* Performancing takes 30%
* You take 5% of income generated by any publisher or advertiser you refer to us

Partner payouts for referrals continue indefinitely providing both you and the party you referred are active in the program. This allows publishers to build up a strong residual income over time independent of their own blogs.

Performancing PartnersI’ve been messing around with the service since I signed up, and it’s fairly easy to use. Basically each ad that will be placed on your site will be a 125px by 125px image with a hover box describing the link in detail. You can place from 1 to 6 ads on your site.

There is one issue I can’t seem to figure out though, and that’s how I’m going to get paid via PayPal. If I want to buy an ad, I enter my PayPal info during that process. But on the publisher side, there is no section where I can enter PayPal info. I’m wondering if they will just use the email address I entered during sign up as the PayPal account, or if they’ll be deploying this part of the service once ads actually start getting placed.

Before signing up, you may want to read the preliminary reviews of the Partners service at ProBlogger and TechCrunch. They’ve got a few concerns they’d like to see addressed also.

At any rate, if anyone has an inkling that they want to see their own ad over there in the sidebar, then go ahead and add Gangstas & Hugs to your cart! I never said I wasn’t above whoring myself out, so you can’t hold that shameless plug against me.

    I have signed up for this and added it to 3 of my sites. I am having the same ‘irk’ on all 3 - I can’t right or left justify the ads to the edge of my sidebars and it kinda throws the design off. The placeholder they have up is centered, and I assume the actual ads will do the same.

    I’ve been wondering if I should start some ads, but I’m torn over it. Is there really enough money to be made to make ads worth the trouble?

    Dave: I can definitely see how the forced layout of the ad can be frustrating. Luckily it works in my sidebar, but I can definitely see how it could really mess up other blog layouts. Maybe Performancing will address this in the future.

    Poobah: Well I guess it all has to do with your level of sellout-edness. I’ve always been an ad-sellout, so I figure its ok to experiment with different ads on the blog.

    I’m actually paying for my hosting fees plus a little extra every month with my ads, mainly because of Text Link Ads. It took a while for an advertiser to purchase an ad on my site, but once they did, I’ve been getting a monthly payment every month for 4 months now. If you’re interested in the amounts, just email me and I’ll be happy to share those with you.
